Printed paperboard cartons for granola, muesli, flakes, puffs and oats, sized for your fill weight and made to hold a sealed liner bag. Full color on every panel, with room for nutrition facts, a barcode and a back panel kids will actually read at breakfast.
Your time is very important to us so we have kept it short.
Every cereal box you’ve ever owned is really two packages. The printed carton outside, and a sealed bag inside doing the job of keeping the cereal crunchy. Custom cereal boxes are that outer carton, built around your product, your fill weight and the liner you use.
Our cereal customers tend to be small granola makers moving from bags to boxes, farmers market brands going into grocery, keto and protein cereal startups, and oat companies that want a family size and a single serve in the same look. Their main problem is usually a box that’s either too big for the fill (customers feel cheated when it’s half empty) or one that bulges and won’t sit straight on a shelf.
Crunch lives in the liner. Paperboard on its own lets damp air in, so the cereal goes into a sealed film bag (glassine, or some kind of plastic laminate, usually) and the carton’s job is the boring stuff, standing up straight, not getting crushed in a truck, and carrying every bit of text the store and the label rules want on it. Two layers. Two jobs.
When we size the box, we size it for the filled liner, not just the loose cereal. A sealed bag puffs up with air, and the carton needs enough room to close without crushing the top seal. That’s also why we ask for your fill weight and, if you have it, a filled sample bag. Flakes settle, granola clumps, puffs take up a lot of space for very little weight.
Cereal boxes are tall and narrow on purpose. A slim depth keeps the face big for shelf presence and makes pouring easy. Most single size cereal boxes fall somewhere between 10 and 18 ounces, with family sizes going up from there. Our cereal box dimensions guide lists the common sizes if you want a starting point.
For hotels, cafes and variety packs, small single serve cartons work better. We make those as a separate product, our mini cereal boxes, which use the same artwork in a much smaller format. Heavier granola with nuts and dried fruit may want a slightly thicker board, otherwise the bottom flaps start to bow under the weight.
The front gets maybe a second. Our advice, every time: your brand, the product name, a big photo of a full bowl and one claim (high protein, say, or low sugar), and stop there. Nutrition facts and ingredients and allergens and the net weight and barcode? Side panels. That’s what they’re for.
And the back? Don’t waste it. Puzzles, a story about the farm, recipes, a QR code to your site. People read cereal boxes over breakfast, which is about as captive an audience as packaging ever gets. Inks are soy-based and water-based, board is SBS or kraft, and we’d put matte or gloss lamination over it because sticky fingers and the odd milk splash are just part of a cereal box’s life.
On the practical side, we don’t charge for design help, the team builds your dieline and looks over your files for anything that won’t print right, then sends a digital proof (and a physical sample if you ask for one), and once you sign off it’s usually 10 to 12 business days to produce. Minimums? Often around 50 boxes, depending on the style. Have a look at the cereal packaging boxes range, or just ask us for a quote with your fill weight.
Mention it when you ask for a quote and we’ll go over liner options with you. A lot of brands already buy bags from someone, though, so mostly we just build the carton around whatever liner you’ve got.
Pretty popular for natural and organic stuff, yeah. Bright colors go a bit flat on brown board, so we’ll usually lay white ink underneath the parts that need to pop.
Size the box to your settled fill, not the loose pour. Send us a filled liner bag and we’ll match the carton height so the top isn’t mostly air.
