Pet owners read labels. They’ll flip a dog shampoo bar over in the store and look for oatmeal, coconut oil, no harsh fragrance, safe for puppies. Custom dog soap boxes give that information a proper home, along with your logo and something a bit fun, like a paw print or a cartoon of a wet dog mid-shake.
Most of the brands we work with here are small: home soap makers who added a dog bar, groomers selling their own line, pet boutiques with private label products, and natural pet care companies selling online. They usually start with a paper wrap and a sticker, then want something that holds up better on a shelf next to bigger pet brands.
Dog shampoo bars come in all shapes. A 4 oz rectangle is what we see most, but people send us rounds and ovals and, yes, little bones. Measure at the widest and tallest spots and give it some room, because handmade bars drift a bit batch to batch and the box that fit batch one perfectly can pinch batch three. Happens all the time. Tuck end boxes are the usual choice, with a top that opens easily in the store so people can smell the bar. A sleeve style works well for bars that are wrapped first in paper. For bone-shaped bars, a window cut to the bone outline shows the shape right away, which pet owners find hard to resist.
Soap breathes. A cold process bar is still curing a little when it goes in the box, so seal it up tight and you’ll get a sweaty bar a few weeks later. Gross. We’d punch a few small vents or cut a window, and the nice side effect is a shopper gets a whiff of the lavender or peppermint without opening anything.
Kraft paperboard is a natural fit for most dog soap brands. It has a handmade look, takes one or two color print nicely, and is recyclable. SBS paperboard is better if your design has bright colors, pet photos or detailed illustrations. What’s the bar for? Itchy skin, puppy bath time, flea season, a stinky dog, whatever it is, that goes big on the front so people get it in a second. Flip side, we’d put ingredients and directions (lather up, rinse well, keep it out of the eyes) with the net weight and how to reach you. And don’t oversell. Pet owners are a loyal crowd once they trust you, and they notice when copy gets carried away.

Kraft suits natural and handmade brands. White SBS is better for full-color photos of dogs or bright illustrated designs.
