Trays and clamshells for hot dogs and sausages, the fully loaded kind included. The inside is coated so chili grease doesn’t soak through, we size for one dog or two (plus fries if you want), and your truck or stand name goes on top.
Your time is very important to us so we have kept it short.
A loaded hot dog is a messy thing to hand across a counter. Chili slides off one end, onions fall out the other, and the bun starts to go soft the moment it meets mustard. Custom hotdog boxes give all of that somewhere to go. A good box holds the dog snug along its length, catches the drips, and lets someone walk to their seat or their car without wearing half the toppings.
We print them for food trucks, ballpark vendors, hot dog carts, burger joints with a sausage on the menu, and event caterers. They all want the same thing. A box that doesn’t leak, doesn’t collapse, and puts their name in the customer’s hand while they eat.
Two shapes, mostly. First the clamshell, where the lid folds over and a tab locks it, and that’s our pick for takeaway or delivery since the heat stays in and the onions don’t end up on the car seat. Eating it right there at the game? Then the open tray (people call it a boat) is quicker to hand out.
Size trips people up. A normal frank runs about 6 inches and a foot-long, well, 12, but a Chicago dog piled with pickles and sport peppers needs a lot more width than either, and squeeze it into a narrow box and the bun just gets crushed. Too wide, and the dog rolls over and dumps toppings into a corner. Send us your bun measurements and we’ll fit the box to them.
Hot dogs are greasy and often steaming, so the inside surface of the box takes a beating. We use paperboard or kraft with a grease-resistant coating on the food side. Without it, oil wicks into the board and shows up as dark spots on your printed lid.
Then there’s steam. Close a clamshell tight and the bun goes soggy in minutes, which is fine for a walk to the bleachers and kind of awful after a 20 minute delivery, so we cut a couple of little vent slits in the lid. For delivery, a corrugated clamshell holds heat better and keeps its shape longer. Our article on corrugated boxes for food delivery goes into that in more detail.
Your hotdog box is a small billboard that walks around the venue. Bold, simple artwork works best. A logo, a color, maybe your social handle. Print on the outside with water-based inks, and keep heavy coverage away from the inside food contact surface.
If you also sell burgers or fries, our custom burger boxes and fast food boxes can be printed in a matching design. See more ideas in our food and beverage packaging range.
Most foot-long boxes are around 12.5 to 13 inches long inside, giving you a little room at each end. Measure your bun when it’s loaded, since toppings add width too.
With a grease-resistant coat inside, sure. Plain kraft without it? That chili’s coming through fast.
Yep. You can usually start at around 50 boxes depending on the style, and we need about 10 to 12 business days after you approve the proof. Rush production can be arranged if your event date is close.
Brands ordering these often look at custom frozen food boxes, custom chinese takeout boxes, custom printed pizza boxes and custom burger boxes as well. You can see the full range in food and beverage.
