In a slide blister package, the clear plastic blister has flanged edges that wrap around three sides of an insert card, leaving one side open. The product is placed in the blister, and then a cardboard card is slid into the open side of the blister, which locks into the flanges and traps the product inside.
In plain English, a slide blister is a clear plastic bubble with three folded edges and one open side. The product goes inside the bubble. The printed card slides in through the open side. The three folded edges grip the card and hold it in place mechanically- no glue, no heat, no adhesive required.
The distinguishing feature of slide blister packaging is the inclusion of flanges that wrap around the sides of the cardboard, with an open side without a flange. This design allows the cardboard to slide in and out easily.

The printed card is the marketing surface of custom slide blister packaging. Every design decision on the card affects how the package performs on a retail peg hook.
The card must extend beyond the blister flange on all sides to give brand artwork, product information, and regulatory copy room to breathe. The standard minimum border is 15 to 20mm of card beyond the blister flange on every side.
If the blister is 70mm wide × 100mm tall, the card minimum size is 100mm wide × 130mm tall with 15mm of printable card border on each side.
The euro slot, the standard 35mm × 10mm die-cut peg hook hole, sits at the top center of the card, above the blister. Leave at least 20mm of card above the top flange edge before the euro slot so the card does not tear at the slot under the product weight.
Artwork that crosses the flange seam reads slightly differently than artwork on the open card field, so the dieline should be respected and critical type kept out of the seal zone.
The three folded flanges of a slide blister cover the card edge on three sides by approximately 8 to 12mm. Any design element like logo, product name, key benefit that falls under a flange is hidden when the card is in the blister. Keep all critical design elements at least 15mm inside the card edge on the three flange sides.
The back of the card is the most information-dense surface: ingredient lists, instructions, barcodes, allergen statements, manufacturer address. The UPC barcode goes on the back of the card in a flat area never under the blister where the plastic surface would distort the scanner read.
Print methods: Digital CMYK for low to medium quantities – full photographic color, no plate costs. Offset lithography for high volume, Pantone-accurate, consistent across large runs. Flexographic for high-volume spot color programs.
Finishes: Gloss lamination – vibrant, high-shine, colors pop on the retail peg hook wall. Matte lamination – sophisticated, premium, stands out from gloss-heavy competitors.
