Black mailer boxes are corrugated shippers printed or wrapped in black, and your logo goes on in foil, white ink or spot UV. They take the post fine and still look sharp on the doorstep, so we see them a lot with fashion, beauty, tech bits and subscription orders.
Your time is very important to us so we have kept it short.
Honestly, black packaging gets away with doing very little, because you put one logo on it, maybe a line of text under the lid, and the box already looks like somebody serious made it. We print a lot of black mailer boxes for clothing labels and beauty brands, and for men’s grooming and phone accessory sellers too. Almost empty designs. Still look done.
The catch? Black shows everything.
Scuffs, greasy thumbs, a fold that cracked white along the edge, you’ll see all of it, so the box needs to be built right and finished right or the clean look kind of falls apart somewhere between your packing table and the customer’s porch.
Under the black it’s a normal corrugated mailer. Usually E-flute, with a tuck front, side dust flaps and a lid that locks down, and that thin flute folds crisply and takes print well, which is why we use it for most clothes, cosmetics, candles and small electronics (something like a pair of earbuds and a charger, say). Heavy stuff? Go B-flute.
The black itself can be printed onto white board or wrapped on as a black paper outer, and if it’s printed onto kraft it comes out a bit softer and flatter, which some people actually prefer. Inside can be any color you like. A lot of brands do black outside and white or a loud brand color inside, so the lid opens on a little surprise. Working out a size? Our mailer box dimensions guide lists the common ones.
Plain black ink scuffs. We say this to pretty much every customer who asks about the cheapest option, because a black box rubbing against other boxes in a delivery van will come out with grey streaks on it.
Put a matte lamination over it and you get a deep flat black that holds up. Gloss is shinier, kind of piano-like, and wipes clean. Soft-touch feels lovely in the hand but picks up fingerprints (worth knowing if your packers don’t wear gloves). Logo-wise, our usual pick is gold or silver foil, though spot UV on matte black is the subtle one, it only shows when you tilt the box toward the light, and white ink looks stark and modern. Or skip color and emboss it.
Fit matters more here than with a brown box, to be fair. If the product slides around, the corners take the hits, and a dented black corner looks way worse than a dented kraft one, so fill the gap with an insert or a bit of tissue.
Ground shipping is free anywhere in the USA. Production is 10 to 12 business days once you approve the proof, and before that our team sets up the dieline and artwork for free and checks your files. Want another shade? Our colored mailer boxes work the same way, the main custom mailer boxes page covers full printed designs, and there’s more in the corrugated shipping boxes range.
Not if it’s laminated. Bare black ink is the one that scuffs, so we’d put matte or gloss lamination on most orders.
Yes, people do it all the time. A solid color, a pattern, or just a short note under the lid.
It’s low, often around 50 boxes depending on the style, and the price per box comes down as you order more. We can send a physical sample first if you’d like to hold one.
Brands ordering these often look at colored mailer boxes, cardboard mailer boxes, mailer cartons and mailer shipping boxes as well. You can see the full range in corrugated shipping boxes, and our guide to mailer box dimensions helps with sizing.
