Foundation cartons for a pump bottle, a dropper or a tube. We print the shade big so shoppers find it. Glass? An insert stops it knocking about, and soft-touch or a little foil helps it sit right on a store shelf.
Your time is very important to us so we have kept it short.
Nobody buys foundation, they buy a shade. Picture someone squinting at a shelf looking for 240 Warm Beige out of fifteen boxes, and the number’s tiny and tucked round the side, so they give up and walk off. Custom printed liquid foundation boxes have to sort that out before anything else, then fit the bottle snugly and look like the formula inside.
We make these mostly for indie makeup brands, clean beauty lines and private label sellers. A lot of them started with a plain white carton and a shade sticker, which is fine for five shades, honestly, but at twenty shades the stickers are peeling off in steamy bathrooms and it all looks a bit homemade.
What’s the bottle? Most of what lands on our desk is 30 ml glass with a pump or dropper. The odd squeezy tube. The shape decides the box, so for a square glass pump bottle we’d do a tall tuck end with room over the pump cap, and droppers get even more height because of that rubber bulb. Tubes are slim and easy, nothing to it.
Measure it with the cap on, across the widest point. Then pop it on a kitchen scale, because glass foundation bottles weigh more than you’d guess. Still choosing a bottle? Our standard cosmetic box sizes guide has the common sizes.
Loose glass rattles. Every bump in the van, the bottle smacks the carton wall. We’d put in a plain paperboard insert with a cut-out so the bottle stands still, and the bonus is the pump doesn’t get pushed down in transit, which, we’ve seen it, is exactly how foundation ends up leaking all over the inside of a sealed box.
Shipping online orders? The carton’s for the shelf and the unboxing, not for being dropped by a courier, so put it in a mailer with a bit of padding. Some brands do their launch shade set in a rigid box with every bottle in its own foam cavity.
Our advice on layout is kind of boring, we know. Pick one and use it on every shade, with the name and number big and sitting in the identical spot each time. Want a bonus? Print a tiny swatch on the top flap. Makeup artists will thank you when they’re digging through a drawer. Check those swatches on a physical sample though. Screens lie about color.
We print on SBS paperboard for this, it holds color nicely and evenly. Soft-touch is lovely for a skin-focused brand. A foil logo, some spot UV, maybe an embossed name, any of those look great. Ingredients and directions go round the back and on the sides. Selling primers or serums as well? Our serum boxes can follow the same design.
Minimums for custom printed liquid foundation boxes are low, often around 50 boxes depending on the style, and each box costs less as the quantity climbs. Every shade can have its own design inside the one order. We set up the dieline and lay out the artwork for free, check the files for print problems and send a digital proof, plus a physical sample if you want one.
Production’s 10 to 12 business days after you approve the proof and ground shipping anywhere in the USA is free. Other makeup? Try our printed makeup packaging boxes and the wider cosmetic boxes range, or get a quote for your shade line.
We’d really push for one. The bottle stops banging into the walls and nobody presses the pump by accident in transit.
Yes, easily. Same dieline, and we just swap the shade name, the number and the swatch color for each one.
Most skin-first brands we work with go soft-touch matte. If yours is loud and colorful, gloss is fine.
