Got a facial oil or body oil in a dropper bottle, somewhere between 15ml and 100ml? We print cartons for those in SBS paperboard or rigid board, with a neck insert so the glass doesn’t wobble, and finish them matte, soft-touch or with a bit of foil so they look at home next to pricey skincare.
Your time is very important to us so we have kept it short.
Facial oils usually come in little amber or frosted glass bottles with a dropper, and honestly they’re often the priciest thing in somebody’s whole routine. Lots of value. Very breakable. Skin care oil boxes are there to protect the glass and keep light off the oil, and they give a tiny bottle enough presence on a shelf that the price tag makes sense.
We print them for indie skincare brands, aromatherapy lines, spa and salon retail, clean beauty companies selling online, and what they ask us about is pretty much always the same few things. Fit, because a rattling bottle is the complaint we hear most. Light. And how on earth to fit an ingredient list and directions on a skinny box without it looking like a mess.
Dropper bottles are taller than you think once the pipette and bulb go on. Measure with the cap on, base to the top of the bulb, then add a little room, and for a 30ml bottle (the one we see most) you usually end up with a box about 1.5 inches square and roughly 4.5 tall, though it shifts a bit depending on who made the bottle.
Best upgrade you can make? A neck insert. It’s just a die-cut card that sits in the top of the box and grabs the bottle by the neck so it can’t tip or slide, and for glass going out in the post it honestly does more against breakage than a thicker box would.
Plant oils go off quicker in light and heat. The bottle does most of the protecting, sure, but an opaque box is a second layer on a bright shop shelf, and SBS paperboard with full-coverage print blocks light well. Want a window to show the bottle off? Keep it small and put it over the label. Not over the oil.
Oil also gets out, somehow, always. A dropper top that isn’t screwed all the way down can leak in transit and stain the inside of the box, so we’d put matte or gloss lamination on the inside panels so it wipes off instead of soaking in (worth it for anything shipping straight to customers).
Skincare buyers notice texture. Soft-touch feels smooth and calm and suits a minimal design, while a small foil logo or a bit of spot UV on a matte box gives a quiet shine, and on a white or cream box we kind of love an embossed brand name, texture with no extra color.

If you’re shipping it, yes, get a neck insert. On a shop shelf only, a snug carton on its own is usually OK.
On bare board they can. Laminate inside and out and the surface wipes clean, small marks too.
